Sin is like a Cancer

I read the account of 2 Samuel 11 where King David the Greatest King of Israel next to Jesus Christ Himself fell into sin. He had instructed his men to go to war as they did in those days and he stayed behind (first mistake). He had nothing to do and there is an old saying that goes like this "The devil makes work for idle hands." The Bible says that one evening he walked out onto his veranda and he saw a beautiful young woman who was bathing. He desired her, he called for her and he slept with her. He committed his first sin and then a short while later she sent a message back to him to say that she is pregnant with his child. Sin number one had been committed and David a man who actually spoke with God can you believe it (He wrote most of the beautiful psalms in the Bible) tried and cover his tracks committed sin number two. He sent for Bathsheba's husband Uriah the Hittite to come back from the war. Uriah was a captain in David's army and he tried to cover his tracks by performing sin number two. David tried to get Uriah to sleep with his wife, but Uriah being an honourable man and a great warrior refused to sleep with his wife while his soldiers were still in the battle field.

Sin number three, David then tried to make him drunk at his own table so that he would go and sleep with his wife. He refused and slept at the city gate, then went back to the battle front. Can you see my friend, how contagious and deadly sin is. Then David sent a letter to Joab his commander general in the field to put Uriah and his men into the front line and make sure that they got killed. Uriah was a great warrior and he attacked the city. He came right up to the wall of the city and then Joab withdrew his troops and left Uriah alone with his men. As a result they were all massacred. David had now become a mass murderer. After a time of mourning David took Bathsheba into his house as his wife and he lived for a number of years with her, the Bible says. Their child that they had together also stayed with them until God sent His prophet Nathan to come and expos David for the sinner he was.

The Bible says in Romans 6:23 (NKJV) "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." You see when Nathan visited David and exposed him, David was absolutely devastated that he had been found out. Nathan said that, because the Lord loves you, you will not die, but the sword will remain in your home for the rest of your life. David had one terrible life from there onwards. We are not disputing that through David's repentance we will see him in heaven, but I can tell you my dear friend that the man had a horrible life after that. First of all, the child that they both had out of wedlock died. Secondly the son that he loved so much, Absalom, tried to kill his own father and usurp his authority by taking control of the Kingship of all of Israel. Then another one of David's sons raped one of David's daughters and Absalom was so incensed he killed his brother. This all happened in one household. Eventually God restored David completely as King over all Israel, but he paid a terrible price for this sin. God is laying on my heart that as soon as you perform a sin and all of us have sinned as the Bible says in Romans 3:23 (NKJV) "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," we should repent, turn away from it and never go there again. Be honest and stand up for the mistakes you have made and ask God to forgive you. He will cleanse you, forgive you, and give you another chance.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV) "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." Don't try to cover your tracks, you can never ever hide from God. Confess your sins and God will forgive you. Then you need to move on. Don't try to fix it yourself, it does not work.

So may God bless you as you start to live a holy life, as you start to prepare yourself for the second coming of the Lord which is very eminent.
