work home to show to our parents. Jazz painted a beautiful picture of
the sea close to where we live for daddy, and I made mommy a clay
flower pot. Jazz and I have been working on these projects for 4 weeks
in art class. It was really hard work and in the beginning my pot didn’t
look like a pot at all, it was flat and shaped kind of funny and I kept having
to squash the clay back into a ball and start again. Once I had gotten
the shape right it took some time to smooth the edges. After 3 weeks I
had finished moulding the pot so with the help of my teacher I put it in
the clay oven to bake so that it could become hard and durable so that
it doesn’t break when mommy uses it. This week marked the final and
most fun of all the steps to making the flower pot as I got to decorate it.
Mommy loves red and orange so I painted it with a zigzag pattern and
stuck round beads along the edge. Finally my masterpiece was com-
plete. When mommy saw it she had the biggest smile and gave me a
hug and a kiss. Daddy was so impressed with Jazz’s painting that he took
us both for ice cream at the beach.
We learn at Sunday school that we are like a special art project to God.
We start as tiny babies and as we grow up He uses different ways to
shape us into who He has planned for us to be. God has all these really
cool plans for us to be extraordinary and to have a life filled with hope,
love, peace and joy and a bright future. Just like I worked on mommy’s
pot until it was completed, so God works on us every day, through
the words we hear from the Bible, through what mommy and daddy
teaches us and also when we pray through the Holy Spirit who works in
our hearts to squash us and smooth away all our rough and sinful edges.
The greatest and most important step in our process to becoming a
masterpiece for God is when we ask Jesus to come and live in our hearts.
One day when God has completed His work in and through us we will
meet Him in heaven and Jesus will show us off as a perfect masterpiece
to His Father and we will be welcomed into the arms of God and receive
a great reward.
